As an unprovoked trade war with the United States threatens Canada’s economy, Ali Ehsassi stands ready to leverage his unique blend of international expertise and government experience. He is committed to working alongside Mark Carney to defend Canada, forge new trading relationships, and build a stronger economy.

Ali has proudly served as the Member of Parliament for Willowdale since 2015. In 2025, Ali was appointed to Prime Minister Mark Carney’s Cabinet as the Minister of Government Transformation, Public Services, and Procurement. His leadership experience also includes serving as the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Industry and chairing the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development.

Before entering politics, Ali practised as an international trade lawyer for 15 years, positioning him to be outspoken on the rule of law, multilateralism, and human rights issues. In 2024, he was recognized as one of Canada's Top 25 Most Influential Lawyers.

Born in Geneva and raised in New York City and Tehran, Ali moved to North York with his family in the 1980s. He is a graduate of the University of Toronto (B.A.), attended the London School of Economics (M.SC.) and has received law degrees from Osgoode Hall Law School (LL.B) and Georgetown University in Washington, DC (LL.M).  He currently resides in the West Lansing neighbourhood of Willowdale with his spouse Celeste.
